Carson Young Takes Lead at Oneflight Myrtle Beach Classic

Carson Young shot a 7-under 64 in rainy conditions Saturday to take the third-round lead in his home-state Oneflight Myrtle Beach Classic. The former Clemson player from Anderson, South Carolina, is at 13-under-par total at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

Key Highlights

  • Young’s score was highlighted by a hole-in-one on the par-5 15th hole with a flop shot from 30 yards out.
  • He also birdied three holes during an eight-hole stretch without bogeying before finishing with consecutive pars.

"It’s been cool to have family out here and a bunch of support with friends," Young said. "I hear a bunch of Go Tigers! out there." The atmosphere reminded him of old times when he played golf at Clemson.

Career Opportunities

Young will be going for his first win since turning pro last May. The winner of this year’s Oneflight Myrtle Beach Classic will receive $2 million and earn spots in next year’s Masters Tournament as well as this summer’s U.S. Open at Pinehurst. This is an opportunity that could change Young’s career trajectory after going winless on tour since turning pro.

Recent Performance

Young has shown improvement recently, tying for second place last week at Harbour Town Links near Hilton Head Island. He shot one round over par through three rounds and carded five under par on Sunday while tying for fifth place among those who completed all four rounds. His performance has given him confidence heading into the final day action tomorrow morning.

"I’ve been playing pretty solid lately," he said. "I’ve just got to keep it going tomorrow."
