Documentary Explores Life of The Liver King

A new documentary premiering on Netflix on May 13 delves into the life of Brian Johnson, also known as The Liver King. Johnson’s rise to fame was built on a primal persona that included nine "ancestral tenets," daily raw organ meat, and a shirtless existence.

He became a sideshow with his booming voice, barrel chest, and lifestyle that involved sunning his nether regions and snacking on bull testicles. Millions of followers couldn’t look away from the testosterone-filled spectacle.

However, not everyone is convinced by Johnson’s claims of being all natural. Allegations have been made against him regarding steroid use in recent years. In the documentary, Johnson denies these allegations, stating:

"I’m not saying I’ve never taken anything. But if you’re talking about performance-enhancing drugs…no."

The documentary raises questions about how easily influencers can reach large audiences without traditional gatekeeping measures in place. Director Joe Pearlman notes:

"We live in a time when someone can reach hundreds of millions of people without going through any kind of traditional gatekeeping."

This phenomenon was particularly evident during COVID-19 lockdowns when people were stuck at home looking at screens all day long.
