IUPUI Parts Ways with Men's Basketball Coach Paul Corsaro

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) has announced the dismissal of men’s basketball coach Paul Corsaro following an investigation into his behavior towards players. The investigation was initiated after a complaint from a player alleging that Corsaro made derogatory comments and exhibited unprofessional conduct.

Investigation Details

  • A player claimed that Corsaro referred to them as "a piece of s—" and stated they were "not good enough."
  • The complaint also included allegations of Corsaro yelling at players during practices and games.

Coaching Tenure

  • Corsaro joined IUPUI in June 2023 as the head coach.
  • He recorded a 10-24 overall record and a 6-14 record in the Horizon League during his brief tenure.
  • His dismissal was not attributed to on-court performance but rather to his behavior.

Official Statement

IUPUI Director of Athletics Jeff Brohl stated, "We are committed to providing our student athletes with a positive experience. Unfortunately, Coach Corsaro’s behavior fell short of our expectations."

Previous Experience

Before his time at IUPUI, Corsaro served as an assistant coach at Purdue Fort Wayne for two seasons and was the head coach at UIndy from 2020, where he led the team to multiple winning seasons and NCAA tournament appearances.

Corsaro’s Response

Corsaro expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead IUPUI but acknowledged falling short of expectations. He stated, "I want to thank Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis for giving me this opportunity. I am grateful for my time here but understand why we have parted ways."

Impact on IUPUI Men’s Basketball

The firing of Corsaro represents another challenge for the IUPUI men’s basketball program, which has faced difficulties over the years, particularly since its transition from Division II to Division I athletics more than two decades ago.
