Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra Celebrates 70th Season

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) is set to celebrate its 70th season with a diverse range of performances across seven venues. The orchestra will feature 64 concerts under the guidance of 29 conductors, showcasing a wide variety of musical styles and genres.

Highlights of the Season

  • Lang Lang Performance: One of the season’s highlights is a performance by Lang Lang, one of classical music’s biggest stars. He will perform at Jack Singer Concert Hall on September 27, bringing his unique talent and charisma to Calgary.

  • SYNTHONY: EDM Meets Orchestra: This innovative concert takes place on September 5 at Big Four Roadhouse, combining DJs and vocalists with members of Calgary Phil for an unforgettable mix of electronica and classical music.

  • Tenille Townes: Country fans will enjoy a special performance by Grande Prairie superstar Tenille Townes, who makes her CPO debut on April 23-25 with two shows at both Bella and Jack Singer concert halls.

  • Alberta in Harmony: The Planets: In May, Calgary Phil teams up with Edmonton Symphony Orchestra to perform Gustav Holst’s iconic work live in surround sound using state-of-the-art technology.

  • Phil in the Park: The CPO returns to Prince’s Island Park for their annual free outdoor show called “Phil in the Park,” which takes place on September 7. This event is popular among families and music enthusiasts alike.

Halloween Performances

As Halloween approaches, multiple spooky performances are planned throughout October and November, including:

  • A Haunted House featuring works by Mozart on October 24
  • Danse Macabre on November 1
  • Spooky Classics on November 14
  • The Addams Family Live! In Concert on November 15
  • Dracula – Live To Film Screening & Performance on November 16

Seasonal Highlights

In addition to these events, Handel’s Messiah will be performed indoors on December 13 at Grace Presbyterian Church and again outdoors on January 17, promising to be a highlight for choral music enthusiasts.
