Sussex Girls Gear Up for Touch Rugby Festival

Over 100 girls from schools across Sussex will participate in a touch rugby festival on Wednesday, as the region prepares to host two games during the Women’s World Cup.

The event, held at Hove Rugby Club, aims to promote the sport among young girls ahead of the tournament, which begins in England on August 22. Brighton will host two games during the World Cup, including one of England’s group stage matches.

Community Engagement

Geraldine Brown, chairwoman of Hove Rugby Club and a member of Brighton Sharks’ committee, emphasized the club’s commitment to supporting local communities through rugby initiatives. She stated:

"As a host city, we are just building and can’t wait to welcome teams and supporters."

The touch rugby festival coincides with the growing excitement surrounding the Women’s World Cup. Organizers report that over 275,000 tickets have been sold so far, with fans eager to experience top-class international action and explore what makes England an amazing place.

Promoting Women’s Rugby

Hove Rugby Club has played a key role in hosting teams and supporters for these events. The club has also been actively working with local schools to promote women’s rugby through its community outreach program.

Brown added:

"We’re excited about hosting this event at our club and hope it inspires more young girls to take up the sport."
