Ford Recalls Expedition and Navigator SUVs

Ford Recalls Expedition and Navigator SUVs

Ford is recalling 273,789 Expedition and Navigator SUVs due to a potential installation defect that may cause the front brake lines to come into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe. This issue could lead to a brake fluid leak and/or loss of brake function.

Recall Details

  • Affected Vehicles:
    • Expedition SUVs (model years 2022-2024)
    • Navigator SUVs (model years 2023-2024)
  • Production Years: 2022 to 2024
  • Drive Systems: Rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive
  • Wheel Size: Aluminum wheels measuring at least 22 inches in diameter

Symptoms of the Issue

Drivers experiencing this issue may notice:

  • An increase in pedal travel when pressing the brakes, meaning the pedal would need to be pressed harder to apply the brakes.
  • If there is a leaking brake line, the brake fluid level will decrease over time, potentially causing the red brake warning indicator to light up.

Company Response

  • Ford has issued an alert regarding this recall but is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to it.
  • At least 45 owners have reported front brake line leaks since April 17.
  • The company estimates that only 1% of the recalled vehicles may have this defect and is continuing to investigate further reports.

Next Steps for Owners

  • Ford will notify owners about repairs starting on July 31.
  • Dealerships will inspect for damage free of charge, and if necessary, they will replace both front lower control arms at no cost.
  • Ford recommends that customers check their vehicle’s owner manual for instructions on how often to check their vehicle’s parking brake system.
