Ford is committed to its partnership with Red Bull Racing and Formula 1, despite uncertainty surrounding the future of star driver Max Verstappen. The American manufacturer has been working closely with the Austrian team since 2026, when it will supply a power unit for the first time in F1.
Partnership Details
- The deal was signed in September 2019 for a multi-year agreement that includes a power unit supply agreement starting from 2026.
- Mark Rushbrook, head of Ford Performance, stated that most internal goals are being met at Red Bull Powertrains and Ford, adding: "We’re on track to meet our internal goals."
Driver Speculations
Verstappen has been linked to Mercedes on several occasions this year. Toto Wolff admitted last year that talks were held until the summer break but said they had not spoken since then. The four-time world champion has also been linked to Aston Martin, where Adrian Newey is designing the 2026 car and Honda will join as engine supplier.
Rushbrook acknowledged that Mercedes seems confident ahead of next year’s season opener in Bahrain but emphasized: "Ford remains committed to Formula 1 and Red Bull."
Red Bull’s Engine Division
Earlier this month, Red Bull announced its intention to create its own engine division called RBPT, following a partnership between itself, Mercedes-AMG HPP, and Cosworth. It was later confirmed that RBPT would be powered by engines supplied by Cosworth rather than AMG-HPP.
Rushbrook concluded: "It’s clear there are some changes happening at Red Bull Powertrains but we remain committed."
