Southeast Collegiate Frozen Showcase Set for January 2026

College Hockey South, a rapidly growing organization, is set to host its inaugural Southeast Collegiate Frozen Showcase in Nashville’s Ford Ice Center from January 9-11, 2026. The event will feature club hockey programs from seven different colleges.

Purpose of the Showcase

According to College Hockey South founder Chris Oakes, the showcase aims to bring together talented young athletes and provide them with a platform to learn valuable life lessons through teamwork and camaraderie.

Max Mona, head coach for Vandy Club Hockey, stated, "There’s been plenty of talk around possible leagues between us all, especially since we know how well each school does individually when compared side-by-side against other top-notch opponents out west."

Participating Teams

The University of Texas Hockey Team has seen great success on the ice and will be one of six featured teams competing next winter. Other teams include:

  • Alabama State
  • Arizona State
  • Florida Atlantic
  • Louisiana Tech
  • Southern Illinois Edwardsville

The Longhorns’ success reflects a broader surge in interest and achievement for hockey programs at schools within major athletic conferences.

Growth of College Hockey in the South

College Hockey South now comprises more than 50 teams from nearly three dozen schools across eight states, including notable names like LSU and Tennessee. While there hasn’t been official word yet on whether Ole Miss or Vanderbilt will join them anytime soon, both clubs are working towards forming their own league featuring only conference members, citing concerns over travel.

Ice hockey is gaining ground in the heart of SEC country, with club teams from several Southeastern Conference universities set to take center stage at the showcase. Despite being an emerging sport among most Americans, college hockey is becoming increasingly popular across America’s South.

Conclusion

Club hockey programs representing Texas A&M and Arkansas are also participating in the showcase, highlighting the growing trend of non-varsity college hockey in the region. Texas recently secured its spot in this year’s national championship after a dramatic run at regionals, including an overtime victory against UC Berkeley, showcasing their skills as they prepare for next year’s competition alongside other top-notch opponents out west.
