Jamestown High School Softball Team Advances to State Tournament Qualifier

The Jamestown High School softball team secured a spot in the 2025 NDHSAA State Tournament qualifying game after defeating Minot North 15-5 in the WDA Tournament loser-out game on Friday. The Blue Jays’ offense was led by Megan Jarrett, who had a standout performance at the plate.

Game Highlights

  • In the bottom of the first inning:

    • Jarrett singled, scoring one run for Jamestown.
    • Sophia Bond followed up with a double that scored two runs.
    • Brynn Sorenson also doubled, scoring two runs.
  • In the bottom of the second inning:

    • Avery Graves’ sacrifice fly scored another run.
    • Jarrett’s triple to right field and Graves’ sac fly each scored a run.

Minot North produced three runs over five innings but could not catch up to Jamestown’s offense, which continued to score throughout all six innings of play.

Defensive Performance

Jamestown’s defense made several key plays behind Maddie Hoff, who earned her second-straight win. Hoff gave up five runs (four earned) off seven hits and recorded three strikeouts during her time on the mound.

Kinzy Welstad took home an unearned loss after pitching nearly half an hour longer than expected due to a lack of relief from teammates Aven Kelly or Tiecyn Hertz, who were called upon late into extra-inning action against Bismarck Century earlier that day.

Looking Ahead

This win marks a significant milestone for this year’s team as they look forward to competing in their first state tournament qualifier since 2017.

"We’re excited about this opportunity," said head coach Emily Fossenius-Schmidt following the victory over Minot North. "We’ve worked hard all season long, and it feels great that we get another chance."

Fossenius-Schmidt praised her team’s resilience and determination throughout their journey so far:

"They’ve shown me what they’re capable of when things aren’t going our way. We’ll take it one game at a time."

As they prepare both mentally and physically for their upcoming matchup against Bismarck Century next week, Fossenius-Schmidt emphasized the importance of staying positive and ensuring everyone is healthy.

"We need everyone healthy going into next week."

Only time will tell if these young women can bring home another championship title under Coach Fossenius-Schmidt’s leadership!
