Young Entrepreneurs Annual Business Fair: A Showcase of Innovation

It was a day of entrepreneurship and innovation as students from North Point Schools in Calgary showcased their business skills at the Young Entrepreneurs Annual Business Fair.

Event Overview

The event, held at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on the Tsuut’ina Nation, featured over 180 booths set up by students ranging from Kindergarten to Grade 12. They sold a variety of items, including:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Jewelry
  • Fashion products

Each student created their own product line and developed a business plan as part of their weekly financial education classes. The annual fair allows students to demonstrate their entrepreneurial skills and learn valuable lessons about running a successful business.

Growth of the Fair

This year’s event saw more than double the number of booths compared to its first year in 2015, which had only seven stalls. The fair provides students with an opportunity to apply what they have learned in class about financial literacy.

Student Experiences

Teddy Renton-Schindler

Grade 6 student Teddy Renton-Schindler ran a popular “ball track” game where customers could pay for balls that would roll down tracks with prizes attached. Teddy shared, “It was my third time participating in the fair, and I enjoyed every minute of it.”

His experience with weekly financial education classes taught him various concepts such as:

  • Credit cards
  • Debit cards
  • Profit margins
  • Taxes

Teddy found these topics very interesting and noted that being innovative means coming up with new ideas, while creativity involves finding different ways to make things work better.

Brent Devost

Brent Devost emphasized the importance of learning from mistakes, stating that setbacks can be opportunities for growth. He highlighted that giving your best effort is crucial, as putting forth maximum energy into something shows dedication and commitment towards achieving goals without compromising quality standards.

Conclusion

For many students like Teddy Renton-Schindler, participating in this year’s Young Entrepreneurs Annual Business Fair was not just about selling products but also about learning valuable lessons on how businesses operate in daily life outside school walls.
