CoComelon Set to Leave Netflix for Disney Plus in 2027

CoComelon, the popular children’s show that has been a staple on Netflix since 2020, is set to leave the streaming giant in 2027. According to Bloomberg, all eight seasons of the show will be making the switch to Disney Plus.

Viewership Trends

The news comes as CoComelon continues to be a massive hit on Netflix. In 2023 alone, it racked up over 601 million views and was reported by Bloomberg as "the second most-streamed show on Netflix last year." However, despite its popularity with viewers—who tune in for nearly two billion views every week across YouTube and other platforms—CoComelon’s viewership has declined significantly over the past couple of years.

  • According to data from Nielsen Media Research cited by Bloomberg:
    • CoComelon fell by almost 60% between Q2 and Q4 last year.
    • Just six months prior, it had been one of five shows watched more than once per month.
    • By Q4, it had dropped out of the top ten entirely.

Financial Implications

Despite this decline in viewership, Disney is reportedly set to pay tens of millions per year for rights to stream CoComelon on its platform. The deal may prove beneficial for Disney given CoComelon’s massive reach and revenue potential:

  • Reports indicate it generated nearly $1 billion in revenue last year alone.

Upcoming Projects

Additionally, a movie featuring J Balvin and others is set to be released next summer under a separate agreement with Paramount Pictures’ Nickelodeon Movies division.
