B.J. Penn Arrested on Abuse Charge

Former UFC champion B.J. Penn was arrested on Sunday on a charge of abuse of a family or household member, according to reports.

The 43-year-old mixed martial artist posted a video showing police attempting to arrest him in his bedroom. The footage, which has not been independently verified, appears to show Penn arguing with officers before being taken away in handcuffs.

According to TMZ, Penn was taken to jail in Hilo, Hawaii, and released on $2,000 bail shortly before 2 AM Monday morning.

In an Instagram post Monday night, Penn shared a disturbing clip of the incident. During the clip, he is heard asking officers why he is being arrested and what kind of harassment he is accused of committing:

"How can I be under arrest for harassment? This is my house. I just went to go grab the mail. Can we call an officer I know that can talk to you guys? Why am I being arrested again? What kind of harassment? What does harassment mean?"

Penn’s social media post about the arrest included information about impostor thefts in Hawaii; however, this explanation does not appear related to his own situation as described in the video clip.

The hashtag #hawaii has been used by some people who claim they have been targeted by impostors. However, there is no evidence this issue affects all islands across Hawaii as some may believe. Further research would be needed here for confirmation purposes only at this time.
