Telus Commits $2 Billion to Enhance Canadian Networks

Canadian telecommunications company Telus is investing $2 billion over the next three years to upgrade its fibre and wireless networks across the country. The funding will be allocated to improve fibre connectivity in key provinces, including:

  • British Columbia
  • Alberta
  • Quebec
  • Ontario

In addition to expanding fibre infrastructure, Telus plans to enhance wireless coverage through upgrades to 5G and LTE services. This move aims to provide Canadians with faster data speeds and more reliable connections.

Bridging the Digital Divide

The investment also includes a significant focus on bridging the digital divide in rural areas. By 2026, Telus aims to:

  • Expand its broadband network into 20 Indigenous lands, increasing its total number of served locations from 637 currently.
  • Add high-speed internet access for an additional 23 rural communities beyond those already covered by existing infrastructure.

AI Data Centres

Telus is also set to establish two new artificial intelligence (AI) data centres in:

  • Kamloops, B.C.
  • Rimouski, Que.

These facilities will offer Canadian businesses and researchers access to cutting-edge technology that can help them develop their own AI capabilities without prior experience with these systems.

"We’re committed not just to building networks but building a better future for all Canadians," said a spokesperson for Telus.
