Chelsea are considering a move for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite, according to reports. The 22-year-old England international has been valued at £70m by Manchester United, but Chelsea could offer him Champions League football if they sign him.
Everton’s Stance
Everton manager David Moyes is reluctant to sell Branthwaite and has stated that he does not want to lose any of his players. However, the club has the option of extending Branthwaite’s contract beyond its current end date of June 2027.
Chelsea’s Defensive Needs
Chelsea believe that signing Branthwaite could fill a gap in their squad following Renato Veiga’s departure next month. Veiga is expected to leave Stamford Bridge when his loan deal expires at the end of July. Additionally, Axel Disasi and Trevoh Chalobah may also depart during the transfer window.
- Dean Huijsen was initially identified as Chelsea’s primary target for a new centre-back before joining Real Madrid earlier this week.
- Marc Guehi remains on their radar as an alternative option.
Branthwaite’s Performance
Branthwaite made 27 appearances for Everton last season and scored one goal in all competitions. He was also capped four times by England under-21s before making his senior debut against Italy in March 2023.
Manchester United’s Interest
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Branthwaite since January, but it appears that Chelsea are now considering making an offer for him instead. It remains to be seen whether Everton will be willing to sell their young defender or whether they will try to keep hold of him despite interest from other clubs.
Upcoming Transfer Window
The transfer window is set to open on July 1st, and it will be interesting to see how things develop over the coming weeks. Will Chelsea make an official bid for Branthwaite, or will they look elsewhere? Only time will tell.

In related news, Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot ahead of next season’s Premier League campaign. The Frenchman has been linked with several top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but it appears that City are now leading the chase.
Rabiot joined Juventus from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2019 on a free transfer after rejecting two offers from Barcelona worth €40 million plus add-ons each year over five years. He played just seven games last season due to injury issues but still managed six assists, showcasing his potential when fit.
