Walton Goggins has spoken out about his feud with co-star Aimee Lou Wood, putting an end to months of speculation. The two actors starred together in HBO’s The White Lotus, where Goggins played Rick and Wood played Chelsea.
Background of the Tension
The tension between them began when a Saturday Night Live parody of their show aired. Some fans speculated that a social media post by Goggins was a dig at Wood after she criticized SNL for making fun of her teeth during the sketch. However, Goggins denied these claims, stating he deleted the post because he didn’t want to appear mean.
Instagram Unfollowing Explained
Goggins also addressed unfollowing Wood on Instagram, which many assumed indicated bad blood between them. He explained that this decision stemmed from his need for time alone after filming wrapped up on The White Lotus in Thailand, where his first wife passed away several years ago.
"I went through some stuff," he told Variety in an interview. "I went through some grief and I needed some time alone."
This experience allowed him to reflect on his character’s storyline and prepare himself emotionally for moving forward without playing Rick anymore.
Mutual Affection
Despite their differing views regarding certain aspects related to recent events involving Saturday Night Live—including whether or not they were portrayed fairly—both actors expressed deep affection for each other during interviews with Variety last week.

Wood called her co-star "a true friend" and praised how much she learned from working alongside him on set every day. She also acknowledged her admiration for him as an actor before they started working together on The White Lotus:
"He’s one of my favorite people I’ve ever met."
-
Goggins reciprocated those feelings, stating:
"She’s just so talented… She just brings such joy every day."
The two have been open about their admiration for each other since wrapping up filming for season 3 of the HBO series earlier this year. However, it wasn’t until now that we gained insight into what happened behind closed doors following the SNL parody episode featuring Aimee Lou Wood’s portrayal as Chelsea opposite Walton’s portrayal as Rick.
