Aaron Judge Shines Despite Yankees' Loss to Athletics

Aaron Judge hit two home runs in a losing effort against the Athletics on Saturday, extending his major league-leading total to 14. The New York Yankees slugger made a triumphant return to the Sacramento area, where he was born and raised just outside of town in Linden.

Judge’s performance was met with loud cheers from friends and family in attendance at Sutter Health Park, which is currently hosting Oakland until its new ballpark opens next year. A crowd of 12,113 witnessed Judge lead off both innings with a homer, giving him four hits overall.

In addition to his impressive hitting, Judge also walked once and struck out twice before leaving the game after seven innings as part of a double switch with DJ LeMahieu. LeMahieu came into play left field while Anthony Volpe moved from shortstop to third base.

Judge’s connection to the Sacramento area runs deep. He has many ties to the community that were evident during batting practice earlier this week when fans showered him with applause each time he stepped up.

Judge’s home run milestone is significant: it gave him 41 career multihomer games—fourth most among active players behind Mike Trout (54), Nolan Arenado (46), and Paul Goldschmidt (44). With offense being produced at an average rate of nearly three home runs per contest at Sutter Health Park so far this season, there will be plenty more opportunities for Judge to add to those totals.

The Yankees ultimately fell short against Oakland despite their star player’s impressive performance. However, Judge remains one of baseball’s top hitters heading into what promises to be an exciting stretch run for New York.
