Aid Delivery to Gaza Strip

Aid Delivery to Gaza Strip

Israeli forces have begun delivering aid to the Gaza Strip after a nearly three-month blockade. Eighty-seven lorries carrying flour, food, and medical supplies entered the coastal area overnight.

Areas Receiving Aid

The deliveries were bound for:

  • Deir al-Balah
  • Khan Younis in southern Gaza

According to Jihad Islim, vice president of the Association of Private Freight Forwarders in Gaza, these areas are among those receiving aid.

United Nations Confirmation

United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric confirmed that about 90 lorries had crossed into Gaza, containing food items such as wheat flour intended for bread production. Bakeries in Deir al-Balah began producing bread using the received flour early on Thursday morning, distributing it among residents.

Aid Delivery Rates

Despite the deliveries, aid delivery rates remain low compared to pre-war estimates. Amjad Shawa, director-general of Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights, stated, "We’re talking about less than one percent of what we need," highlighting the significant gap in aid.

Shawa also noted that no aid has reached northern parts of Gaza yet due to security concerns along routes leading there from Erez Crossing.

Humanitarian Concerns

Robert Piper, UN Special Coordinator, echoed these concerns earlier this week, stating, "This is not enough; this is just a drop in the ocean," when discussing ongoing efforts to deliver humanitarian assistance across borders into besieged areas like those inside Syria’s Idlib province or eastern Ukraine’s Donbas region.
