Allegations of Abuse at Vernon Cadet Camp

Allegations of Abuse at Vernon Cadet Camp

A former cadet has come forward with allegations of abuse nearly two decades after attending the Vernon Cadet Camp youth program. The plaintiff, identified only as G.A.C., claims they were physically and sexually assaulted by a cadet leader in 2007.

Details of the Case

  • The alleged perpetrator has not been identified.
  • The civil suit names the following defendants:
    • Army Cadet League of Canada
    • Operators of the Vernon Cadet Camp
    • Attorney General of Canada
  • The lawsuit alleges that these organizations failed in their duty to protect youth under their care.

Response from the Army Cadet League

According to a statement provided to Global News, an Army Cadet League spokesperson stated:

“We are concerned about any harm coming to our members but we do not believe we should be held liable for this incident because others are responsible for operations and staffing at camps like Vernon’s training centre.”

Context of the Allegations

This case is not isolated. Another former cadet recently filed a similar lawsuit against Captain John McLean, who allegedly groomed him into rape during his stay at camp back in 1976-77.
