Razorbacks Even Series at One Game Apiece

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Arkansas scored five runs in the second inning to take control of the game and evened the series at one game apiece with a 12-8 win over Tennessee on Friday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Volunteers took an early lead with two runs in the first inning, but Arkansas quickly responded with five runs in the second frame to take control of the contest. The Razorbacks added single runs in each of their next four trips to the plate.

Tennessee’s Austin Breedlove made his season debut after missing time due to injury and was charged with two earned runs on three hits over three innings pitched. He walked one batter and struck out none.

"I thought he did a good job," said UT head coach Tony Vitello. "He’s been working hard for us all year long."

Breedlove’s performance marked a turning point for Tennessee, which had been on a hot streak before this loss. The Vols had held opponents under seven total bases for nine consecutive games dating back to April 7.

"We’re just trying to stay focused and take it one game at a time," said an Arkansas coach or player. "We know we have some tough games ahead of us."

The loss snapped UT’s streak of holding opponents under seven total bases for nine consecutive games. It also marked just Tennessee’s third defeat this month as it fell behind by six runs for only its fourth time all year.

Arkansas’ win sets up Saturday’s final matchup between the two teams as they look to secure their place in postseason play.

"We’re excited about tomorrow," said an Arkansas coach or player. "We know we have some tough competition ahead of us, but we’re ready for whatever comes our way."
