Corey Conners Disappointed with Opening Round at PGA Championship

Corey Conners was visibly disappointed with his opening round at the PGA Championship on Thursday, shooting a two-over par 73 at Quail Hollow.

"I’m really disappointed with the score," he said. "I felt like I hit the ball fine. I created some opportunities for myself, but just didn’t make any putts."

Missed Opportunities

Conners missed numerous putts throughout the round, including:

  • A three-foot bogey putt on No. 17, resulting in a double bogey.
  • A nine-foot birdie miss at No. 9 that would have given him an eagle.

Focus on Improvement

Despite his frustration with his game, Conners seemed less interested in discussing Toronto’s Game 5 embarrassment than focusing on improving his own performance.

"I don’t really want to talk about the Leafs last night," he said when asked about their loss to Tampa Bay in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series.

Instead, Conners is looking forward to regrouping and playing better on Saturday. He hopes both he and Toronto will be competing this weekend, although it seems unlikely for either after Toronto’s loss in Game 5.

Conners has some work to do if he wants to turn things around before Saturday’s round begins.
