Detention of Greta Thunberg and Activists by Israeli Forces

Israeli forces detained Greta Thunberg and other activists on Monday after their Gaza-bound aid boat was halted, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition. The group described the detention as "kidnapping by Israeli forces."

Purpose of the Voyage

The coalition had planned to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and protest against Israel’s blockade and wartime conduct. However, Israel’s Foreign Ministry characterized the voyage as a public relations stunt, stating in a post on X:

"The ‘selfie yacht’ of the ‘celebrities’ is safely making its way to the shores of Israel."

The ministry also claimed that life-saving cargo, including baby formula, food, and medical supplies, was confiscated from the ship.

Thunberg’s Response

Following her detention, Thunberg took to Twitter to urge her followers to pressure the Swedish government for her release:

"I urge all my friends, family & comrades to put pressure on Sweden govt. To release me & others ASAP."

Statement from Rima Hassan

Another activist, Rima Hassan, spoke out against her detention before losing signal with reporters. She stated:

"We will not let you get away with this."
