Disqualification from U.S. Open Final Qualifying

Disqualification from U.S. Open Final Qualifying

Nick Barrett, a 31-year-old UPS driver from Catonsville, Maryland, was disqualified from the U.S. Open final qualifying at Woodmont Country Club on Monday.

Round Performance

  • Barrett posted a score of 73 in the first round.
  • He returned his scorecard 20 minutes after completing his round.

Barrett acknowledged his responsibility for the mistake, clarifying that it was not related to signing something incorrectly on the course.

Previous Tournament Experience

This is not Barrett’s first experience with golf tournaments:

  • In 2023, he reached the final qualifying stage for the U.S. Open.
  • He advanced to the Round of 32 in last year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur.

Despite advancing through local qualifying by shooting a score of 68 on May 5, Barrett will miss out on competing at Oakmont due to this disqualification.

Statement

"I am responsible for my mistake," Barrett said about forgetting to sign his scorecard in time.
