The operation was conducted by a police and government task force targeting a 42-year-old Australian man suspected of importing large quantities of prohibited drugs and tobacco through a freight forwarding company in Sydney’s westside, based in Punchbowl.

Investigation Timeline

  • September 2023: The task force began investigating the individual after receiving information about his alleged involvement in drug and tobacco importation.
  • July 2024: Police discovered an industrial cooler imported from Vancouver containing 280 kg of liquid methamphetamine. This shipment was allegedly linked to the individual under investigation.
  • August 5, 2024: Police observed two men, aged 43, accessing the cooler to prepare for extraction before arresting them later that night at different locations around western Sydney.

Arrest Details

  • First Arrest:

    • Time: About midnight
    • Location: Outside McDonald’s on The Horsley Drive near Liverpool Hospital
    • Details: A man was found sitting in his car wearing gloves, with no phone visible.
    • Charges:
      • Possessing dangerous drugs (liquid meth)
      • Participating in criminal group activity (contrary to section eight of the organised crime act)
      • Possession of unregistered firearms (gel blaster pistol & rifle)
      • Driving without due care & attention causing property damage over $5000
      • Reckless driving/failure to keep left side of the road
  • Second Arrest:

    • Time: About half an hour later
    • Location: Nearby house number seven on Minto Road
    • Details: Officers seized gel blasters, a methamphetamine cookbook, and other items consistent with drug manufacture and supply.
    • Status: The second male is yet to appear in court after being granted bail pending appearance.
