A 31-year-old Edmonton woman, Kelsey Elliott, is facing serious legal charges after allegedly scamming multiple small businesses in the city.
Charges Filed
On Tuesday, Elliott was charged with:
- Two counts of fraud over $5,000
- Two counts of theft over $5,000
These charges stem from a months-long investigation conducted by the Edmonton Police Service.
Allegations Against Elliott
According to police reports, Elliott is accused of:
- Requesting goods and services from various small businesses in Edmonton.
- Using multiple forms of payment, including:
- Stolen or defunct credit cards
- Cheques with insufficient funds
When businesses attempted to collect payment, Elliott promised to send payments via e-transfer but failed to fulfill these promises, resulting in significant financial losses for the affected businesses.
Impact on Businesses
The investigation revealed that:
- Two businesses suffered losses exceeding $10,000 each due to their transactions with Elliott.
- The full extent of her fraudulent activities is still unclear, as police believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.
