Fishermen Rescued After 55 Days Adrift at Sea

A group of five fishermen who spent 55 days adrift at sea arrived Saturday at a port in the Galapagos Islands, according to Ecuador’s navy.

Details of the Rescue

  • The fishermen, consisting of three Peruvians and two Colombians, were rescued by a tuna boat named Aldo on May 7.
  • They had been missing since mid-March.

Circumstances of the Incident

  • The incident began when the fishermen reported damage to their boat’s alternator just two days after setting sail from Pucusana Bay, located near Peru’s capital, Lima.
  • This damage left them without power or communication equipment for most of the time they were lost at sea.

The navy stated, "We are coordinating with local and foreign authorities to ensure their safe return to their respective countries."
