George Springer Injured in Blue Jays' Win Over Oakland

In the fifth inning of the Blue Jays’ 7-4 victory against Oakland, George Springer was called out on a play at third base.

Springer appeared to hop onto third base after Alejandro Kirk’s RBI double but was ruled out. Max Schuemann made a defensive play for Oakland, with multiple infielders positioned near first base. Despite his efforts to reach third safely, Springer was tagged out.

Toronto manager John Schneider commented on the incident, stating that it didn’t seem like Springer was celebrating or dancing before the tag. Instead, it appeared he was testing his injured ankle after landing awkwardly while reaching third base.

“Yeah, I think so,” Schneider said when asked if that’s what happened. “He tweaked his left ankle slightly trying to get back up and get off the bag.”

Schneider confirmed that Springer had tape applied to his ankle but remained in the game. The Blue Jays have been cautious with their star outfielder throughout the season, as he has dealt with various injuries during his career.
