Israeli airstrikes killed at least 23 Palestinians in Gaza on Saturday, including three children and their parents whose tent was bombed in Gaza City, according to health officials.
Details of the Incident
- The family of five was among those killed when the tent they were living in was struck by an Israeli missile late Friday night. Their bodies were brought to hospitals over the past 24 hours.
- The strikes come amid increasing international warnings regarding Israel’s plans to control aid distribution in Gaza, as its blockade on the territory enters its third month. The U.N. and various aid groups have rejected Israel’s moves, including a plan from the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.
Impact on Humanitarian Efforts
- A warehouse belonging to UNRWA, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, was hit by an Israeli strike late Friday in northern Jabaliya, resulting in four fatalities, according to the Indonesian Hospital where their bodies were taken.
- Resident Hamza Mohamed noted that locals were aware of the situation when they saw smoke rising from previously targeted buildings, stating, "They’re going back home."
Resumption of Hostilities
Israel resumed its bombardment on March 18 after breaking a two-month ceasefire with Hamas. Ground troops have seized more than half of Hamas-controlled territory and conducted raids and searches in various parts of the region.
Casualty Statistics
- Large portions of both areas have been devastated by months-long operations under the blockade imposed by Israel since October of last year.
- The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 52,000 deaths since October, according to Health Ministry counts, which do not differentiate between civilians and combatants. Additionally, around 119,000 individuals have been wounded during the same period.
