Auburn golfer Jackson Koivun is on the verge of earning his PGA Tour card, but he is uncertain about taking that step. The senior can secure a spot on the tour by finishing in the top 10 at this week’s NCAA Championship, which concludes on Monday. If he succeeds, Koivun will become a full-time member of the PGA Tour in two weeks, but that is not his immediate goal.
"I expect to lock up another point when I tee it up at the Arnold Palmer Cup next month and then take advantage of that opportunity after my junior season is over," Koivun said.
Koivun has enough points to secure his tour card through PGA Tour University Accelerated. However, he plans to wait until after his junior season at Auburn before turning pro.
"The decision was made easier for me because of how much golf means to me and how much Auburn means as well as being able to play with some great teammates and friends who are also going through similar situations right now," Koivun explained. "It was an easy decision for me."
Early Career
Koivun has been playing golf since the age of 5 and started competing in tournaments at 8. He won several local tournaments before moving on to more competitive events, such as AJGA tournaments, where players from all over compete against each other.
He earned a scholarship offer from Auburn after winning several state championships during high school. He was also named Player of the Year three times by Golfweek Magazine and received All-State First Team honors four times.
Community Involvement
In addition to competing at the collegiate level, Jackson also volunteers to help kids learn the game through various programs. He works alongside other coaches and mentors to teach:
- Fundamentals of the game
- Rules and etiquette
- Safety guidelines
- Proper swing techniques
- Putting and chipping
- Bunker play
- Course management strategies
- Mental preparation techniques
- Physical conditioning exercises
- Nutrition planning
- Recovery methods
- Stress management tips
- Goal-setting practices
- Mindfulness and meditation techniques
Koivun’s commitment to both his sport and his community reflects his dedication to personal growth and the development of future golfers.
