Celtics forward Jaylen Brown has been playing in pain since the end of March, according to sources close to him.
Treatment History
- Brown received multiple rounds of cortisone shots and other treatments before undergoing a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection in early April.
- He received another PRP shot at the beginning of May, followed by two more injections later that month.
- The injections began around mid-March, with the first round including one or possibly two shots into each knee.
Symptoms and Impact
Despite the treatments for inflammation caused by tendinitis in both knees, Brown has experienced lingering soreness throughout his lower leg. This soreness is particularly noticeable when:
- Landing from jumpers
- Changing direction quickly while driving towards the basket
Current Evaluation
Sources indicate that Brown did not have any significant setbacks following either procedure but continues to experience pain. An evaluation is scheduled for this week to determine:
- Whether he needs surgery on his left knee (arthroscopic debridement with microfracture)
- If he can continue playing through discomfort with further treatment and rest during the offseason
Previous Knee Issues
Brown has been dealing with knee problems since last season but managed to play through them without missing any games until March 12 against Miami, when he missed one game due to right knee tendinitis. He returned on March 15 against Atlanta but sat out again on March 17 against Chicago because of left knee tendinitis, returning three days later against Toronto.
Ongoing Investigations
The Celtics are still trying to determine the exact issues with Brown’s knees and the necessary course of action moving forward. They have conducted various tests, including:
- MRIs
- X-rays
Additionally, Brown has consulted with several specialists, including orthopedic surgeons Dr. Neal ElAttrache and Dr. David Altchek, who are recognized as top sports medicine doctors in their field.
