Jon Rahm’s PGA Championship Journey

Jon Rahm's PGA Championship Journey

Jon Rahm had a strong desire to win the PGA Championship, rivaling his passion for any other tournament he has played. The Spaniard was eager to close out the Spanish Grand Slam, which would have made him the first since Seve Ballesteros to win three majors and the first Spanish player to secure three different majors.

The Green Mile Challenge

Rahm’s dream of winning at Quail Hollow ended on its Green Mile – a treacherous final three holes. He went 4-over par on those holes, which proved costly. Rahm was tied with Scottie Scheffler after birdying on hole 11, but his struggles on holes 16-18 ultimately led him to finish 7 shots behind Scheffler.

Reflections on Performance

"I think I just got a little nervous," Rahm said after shooting an even-par round of 70 in Sunday’s final round. "I didn’t hit it as well as I did yesterday or Thursday or Friday."

Despite the challenges, Rahm’s performance included notable highlights:

  • He shot a bogey-free round in Saturday’s third round.
  • He held off Scheffler until they reached the Green Mile.

"I felt like I played some great golf this week," Rahm stated. "I’m proud of myself for how far back I came from."

Looking Ahead

Despite his disappointment at not winning, Rahm is already looking forward to next year’s PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.

"Next year will be my fifth time playing there," he said. "It will be fun going back."
