Kelowna Rockets’ Performance Under Adam Foote

Kelowna Rockets' Performance Under Adam Foote

Kelowna Rockets owner, president, and general manager Bruce Hamilton has taken responsibility for the team’s poor performance during Adam Foote’s tenure as head coach. Foote, 53, was hired on October 23, 2018, to lead a struggling WHL team through a transition. However, he faced numerous challenges, including revamping a roster on short notice as the host for the 2020 Memorial Cup.

Challenges Faced

  • Difficult Season: The Rockets finished their first season under Foote’s leadership with a record of 29-28-3-3.
  • Scoring Issues: The team scored fewer goals than any other team in their division and had the second-fewest overall, averaging just 0.75 goals per game.
  • Goalkeeping Instability: The team struggled to find consistency behind goalkeepers, who changed frequently throughout the season.

Additional Stressors

  • Coaching Family: Adam Foote also coached his son, Nolan, alongside Cal Foote’s younger brother, Keaton, who played for the Calgary Hitmen at that time. This added another layer of stress for the young players under his care.

Despite these difficulties, Adam remained committed to improving results but ultimately left after two seasons without achieving significant success on the ice.
