Escape Details

The breakout involved an inmate allegedly using keys obtained from another inmate who worked at the jail. The escapees unlocked doors leading to the yard and climbed over walls using makeshift ladders made from bedsheets tied together with various materials.

  • The inmates navigated through dense woods surrounding Orleans Parish Prison before reaching Interstate 10, where they hitched rides westward toward Texas.

A search party, primarily composed of law enforcement officers, combed areas around I-10 but found no signs of the escapees until late Saturday night. Two individuals reported picking up two men matching the descriptions provided by authorities.

  • One man was dropped off near downtown Houston, while another was taken further east into Harris County.

Both suspects were later identified by witnesses, including one who saw them exit her car near downtown Houston.
