LSU Climbs to 13th at Aviara Golf Club

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The LSU women’s golf team shot a 2-over-par round of 290 on Sunday, moving up the standings into a tie for 13th place at the NCAA Championship at Aviara Golf Club.

The Tigers finished the first two rounds one shot behind Florida and UCLA, which were tied for 15th. LSU is four shots ahead of Vanderbilt, which went from first-round leader to missing the cut.

Key Performances

  • Elsa Svensson:
    • Led the team for a third straight day with a 2-under-par round of 70.
    • Moved into a tie for fourth at six under par overall.
    • Has moved up seven spots in the standings since Friday’s opening round.

Svensson commented on the team’s hard work throughout the week, despite facing challenges. She was penalized two strokes for arriving late to her second-round tee time on Saturday due to a miscommunication regarding transportation from the practice range.

Other Teams

  • Florida:

    • Struggled on the final nine holes, recording just three birdies and finishing with an eight-over-par total, missing the cut.
  • Paula Francisco:

    • Also received penalties during play on Sunday for being late to her tee time, similar to Svensson’s situation.

Tournament Leader

  • Maria Jose Marin (Arkansas):
    • Leads by two strokes heading into Monday’s final round after posting rounds of even-par and five under par.
    • Played in front of family and friends who traveled from Spain to support her.

Upcoming Challenges

Svensson is three strokes back and will need to make up ground to contend for individual honors. Play is set to resume tomorrow evening following a weather delay caused by rain and heavy fog, which forced officials to cancel play until conditions improve.

The course remains soft, and efforts to dry it out were hampered by the return of bad weather. Players and officials are advised to stay tuned for updates on the situation as it develops.
