LSU Softball Falls to Southeastern Louisiana in NCAA Tournament

BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU softball team’s season came to an end after an 8-7 loss to Southeastern Louisiana in the NCAA tournament on Friday at Tiger Park. This loss marks the second time in three seasons that LSU has lost its own regional.

Game Highlights

  • Pitching Struggles: Tatum Clopton started for the Tigers but faced five batters, allowing all to reach base before being relieved by Ashley Vallejo without recording an out. Clopton was not charged with any earned runs, as the runners she inherited came around to score while she was still pitching.

  • Defensive Errors: Southeastern Louisiana capitalized on several errors committed by LSU throughout the game. A dropped pop fly and a misplayed groundball each led to two runs scoring, significantly contributing to SLU’s victory.

  • Wild Plays: The game featured some wild plays that helped seal SLU’s win. Laneaux made a good play on a double hit deep into left field but threw wildly past third base, allowing another run to score.

Player and Coach Reactions

  • Tatum Clopton expressed disappointment, stating, "We’re disappointed with how things went today. We had some tough breaks go against us."

  • Head coach Beth Torina reflected on the team’s effort, saying, "We fought hard until the end. Unfortunately, it just didn’t go our way."

Season Summary

The Tigers finished their season with a record of 44-17 overall and 13-10 in SEC play.
