New York Dragons Front Office Resignation

The New York Dragons, a team set to play in the new Entertainment Football Association, have experienced a significant shake-up with the resignation of their entire front office. General manager Peter Schwartz confirmed the mass resignation in an email to team owner Doug Freeman. Schwartz was joined by:

  • Director of Operations Sean Wachter
  • Director of Business Development Marilynne Rich

Reasons for Resignation

Schwartz stated that it was "the right time to walk away," expressing dissatisfaction with the league’s direction in recent weeks. He noted:

"It just became apparent… we were just not happy with the direction the league was going. Some internal league things that we weren’t aligned with."

Owner’s Response

Team owner Doug Freeman acknowledged the departures, confirming that they had parted ways with their original staff. He hinted at potential new hires from a well-regarded organization, stating:

"We’ve been assessing organizational fit, and that’s why we say perhaps…the organizational fit was not best."

Freeman wished the former staff members well as they move forward in their careers.

Team Context

The New York Dragons are one of two teams playing for Long Island this summer, alongside the Bridgeport Bluefish of Minor League Baseball at the Patriots sports complex on Coney Island driving range.

Reflections

Despite the disappointing end to his tenure, Schwartz expressed pride in his contributions to the team:

"I’m disappointed it ended like it did, but I’m proud of what I did during my time here."

Freeman also shared his optimism for the future, stating:

"We’re excited about our future plans for our front office personnel who will be joining us shortly from another highly respected organization."
