Notre Dame Baseball Falls Short in ACC Tournament

The Notre Dame baseball team’s season came to a close with a 5-4 loss to Boston College in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament. The defeat not only ended their hopes of winning the tournament but also jeopardized their chances of making it into the NCAA Tournament.

"We fell short of a win that could have put us in consideration for the tournament," said an unnamed team official, reflecting on the disappointing outcome.

Key Highlights

  • Pitching Performance:

    • Starting pitcher Rory Fox had a strong outing, going six innings and allowing four runs while striking out nine batters. Despite his efforts, he was unable to secure a win.
    • In relief, Ricky Reeth pitched two clean innings before Tobey McDonough allowed the winning run in the top of the tenth inning.
  • Batting Contributions:

    • Estevan Moreno hit a home run and scored two runs.
    • Jared Zimbardo contributed with three hits during their final game of the regular season.

Season Overview

  • Notre Dame finished with an overall record of 34-25 and went 14-16 in conference play under head coach Link Jarrett.
  • While they did not achieve their goal of making it into postseason play through conference tournaments or automatic bids from league championships, the season was marked by growth and improvement.

Looking Ahead

The Irish will now focus on preparing for next year’s campaign under Jarrett’s guidance.

"We’re excited about what we’ve accomplished so far," said Jarrett after a recent loss against Wake Forest. "We’re looking forward to getting back home next week."

All eyes are now fixed on Friday when they take on Virginia Tech at 1 p.m., hoping for redemption after falling just short against Boston College.
