Reed Clarke Announces Candidacy for City Council in Ward Nakota Isga

Reed Clarke, the former CEO and co-owner of the Edmonton Stingers, has announced his candidacy for city council in Ward Nakota Isga. Clarke’s platform is built around three pillars: connected, community, and commerce.

Building Relationships

Clarke aims to build strong relationships among stakeholders to achieve common goals. He believes this approach will foster collaboration and drive progress in the ward.

"I want to be a leader who builds relationships with all stakeholders – residents, businesses, community leagues, and more," he said. "I believe that by working together we can achieve great things."

Deep Community Roots

Clarke highlighted his deep roots in the area as a key part of his campaign. He has lived in Ward Nakota Isga for over 20 years and has been involved with various community groups throughout that time.

"I know this ward like the back of my hand," he said. "I’ve been involved with local sports teams, volunteered at community events, and have even coached youth basketball."

Supporting Community Leagues

Clarke emphasized his commitment to enhancing Edmonton’s unique network of community leagues, which play a vital role in bringing residents together through shared interests such as sports and arts programs.

"We need to make sure our community leagues are supported so they can continue to thrive," he said.

Focus on Commerce

The third pillar of Clarke’s platform is commerce, with the goal of making Edmonton "the best place in Canada to do business." To achieve this, he advocates for:

  • Quicker permit approvals from city hall.
  • Stronger partnerships between government agencies (e.g., Epcor, Capital Power) and private sector companies (e.g., Shaw Communications, Telus Communications Co.).

Clarke believes these partnerships will help drive equitable development across different parts of town while reducing costs associated with infrastructure projects, which could otherwise fall on taxpayers’ shoulders.

Upcoming Election

Edmonton residents have until August 14th at noon to file nomination papers for municipal election candidates. Voting will take place on October 16th, giving voters ample time to consider their options before casting ballots for their chosen representatives, including Reed Clarke for the Ward Nakota Isga seat.

In addition to supporting local businesses through initiatives like the Fresh Nets foundation, Clarke aims to revitalize basketball infrastructure in parks, demonstrating his ability to bring people together through shared interests.
