Tennessee Titans wide receiver Elic Ayomanor has been on the job for just two practices, but he’s already adjusting to his new quarterback, Cam Ward. In a recent session, Ayomanor praised Ward’s quick decision-making skills, stating, "He gets the ball out really fast."
Ayomanor understands that being ready to catch the ball is crucial in this situation. As a receiver, he knows that if he’s not prepared, it could lead to mistakes.
Coach’s Perspective
Titans coach Brian Callahan emphasizes that they are starting from scratch with Ward and won’t be placing leadership expectations on him right away. "We’re not asking him to do anything outside of what he’d normally do," Callahan said. He believes that leadership will develop naturally as Ward becomes more comfortable around his teammates and learns their personalities. The coach is focused on ensuring Ward understands his responsibilities before expecting him to take on additional roles.
Ward has acknowledged that sometimes he looks ahead in game profiles but notes that the Titans are keeping him grounded in the present moment. He appreciates not being overwhelmed with too much information at once, saying, "They’re not really pushing everything on me at once."
Offseason Changes
The Titans have made significant changes this offseason after losing quarterback Ryan Tannehill and several other key players from last season’s team. They’ve brought in new talent through free agency and the draft, including running back Derrick Henry, who is returning after missing all of last season due to injury.
Despite these changes, Callahan remains optimistic about the team’s chances this season. "I think we’ve got some good pieces here," he said during a recent press conference.
Training Camp Progress
The Titans have been working hard during training camp so far. Callahan spoke with reporters earlier today about how things are progressing. "We’re just trying one day at a time," he stated when asked about the current state of training camp.
Callahan also highlighted the importance of players like Cam Ward, who were drafted by Tennessee last year but didn’t play any snaps as rookies due to injuries or other reasons. "It’s great having them back out there competing," he remarked when discussing the return of players like Ward.
