A frightening incident occurred during Tuesday night’s game between the Minnesota Twins and the Baltimore Orioles. Buck Buxton and Carlos Correa left the game after colliding while chasing a foul ball.
Player Concerns
According to Twins acting manager Jayce Tingler, both players were concerned due to their head collision. However, Buck stayed in for another half-inning before leaving as well. Correa had already been hit by a pitch earlier in the game, which put him in concussion protocol. He walked off on his own after being injured.
Description of the Incident
Tingler described the play:
"It’s one of those fly balls that’s kind of right in the middle of both of them."
The crowd was loud, making it difficult for communication between players. Tingler noted,
"And both of them going at it hard, and you know pretty good crowd today with a bunch of people screaming tough to communicate."
The collision lasted around six or seven minutes and was a scary situation for everyone involved. Tingler expressed concern about head collisions:
"You’re concerned anytime players kind of bang heads or have a head collision."
Player Reactions
Paddack commented on the incident when asked how he felt about what had just occurred:
"You got that scary play that happened with Buck and Los. Hate seeing that. Hope that they can get right over the next couple days as they’re in concussion protocol."
